Deadline reports that Lenny Kravitz will be playing Marvin Gaye in Brittish filmmaker Julie Temple's project previously titled The Midnight Love - named after the early 80's Marvin Gaye album.

Production starts early next year and it is focused on the time Gaye spent in Belgium when the singer tried to get his career back on track and to get his addictions under control.

Gaye was shot by his father and died in Los Angeles on April 1, 1984. Julie Temple, a video and documentary director, helmed Absolute Beginners and, more recently, the 2012 Summer Olympics docu London: Modern Babylon.
